I have been playing drums on and off now for about 18 years.
I had lessons for about a year in school but the rest of my style is self taught. My main influence was Mitch Michel along with all those jazz and funk drummers who's break beats were sampled in Hip Hop and old school hardcore. Mix that with the Punch of Rock and Metal and that's the style that I enjoy playing now.
